A MAN has been charged with eight offences after officers responded to reports that a man in Harlow was in possession of an offensive weapon.
An Essex Police spokesperson said: “We were called around 7pm on Sunday 26 July, with reports that a man had entered a newsagent on East Gate with what was described as a Samurai sword and demanded that a member of staff closed the shop shutters.
“Officers arrived and arrested a man in connection with the incident.
Ben Horsfield, 29 of The High, Harlow, was charged with a racially aggravated public order offence, criminal damage, affray, being in possession of an offensive weapon and four counts of assaulting an emergency worker.
He is due to appear at Chelmsford’s Magistrate’s Court today, Tuesday 28 July.
