More bobbies on the beat to make Harlow’s streets safer

ESSEX Police is set to receive an additional £18.8 million in its funding this year as part of the Government’s boost to police budgets.

The funding uplift – which will directly benefit Harlow – comes as part of the Home Secretary’s announcement that policing will receive up to £15.8 billion in 2021-22 – an increase of £636 million on last year.

This includes over £400 million to recruit 20,000 extra police officers by 2023, delivering on the promise made by the Prime Minister in last year’s General Election. Essex Police has already benefited from an additional 82 officers.

Commenting, Robert Halfon MP, said:
“Making our streets safer is one of my top priorities and I have worked hard to secure extra funding for Essex Police. This announcement will mean more bobbies on the beat to crack down on crime in Harlow. 

“I have also voted in Parliament for tougher sentencing for criminals and stronger powers for the police – including enshrining the Police Covenant in law, giving officers the equipment they need and strengthening laws to protect our brave officers.

“I would like to pay tribute to the work our police officers have done over the past year to keep us safe. They put service before self every single day and I thank each and every one of them for all they do.”

Home Secretary Priti Patel said:

“We have asked more of the police than ever before during the coronavirus pandemic – the British people and I are extremely grateful for their dedication.

“I am absolutely committed to giving the police the resources they need – this funding package delivers on that.

“It will allow us to continue to put more police on the streets, and reduce crime as we build back safer from the pandemic.”
