A Harlow officer has been described as “a credit to the police force” after coming to the aid of an elderly lady at the scene of a road traffic accident.
Pc Josh Haase was on patrol at around 9am on Wednesday December 6 when he noticed the lady stranded on the A414.
She had been involved in an accident where another motorist had collided with the front of her car and failed to stop.
Although the incident had not been reported to police, Josh could see the lady was shook up and quickly spun his car around to offer his assistance.
Josh said: “It was pouring with rain so I just wanted to get her into the warm and to a place of safety. I drove her to the local supermarket where she stayed in the police car whilst I ran back to the A414 to get her car.”
After running a mile to collect the lady’s car, Josh drove it to the supermarket and arranged for it to be recovered by her motor company.
“I was pleased to be able to help this lady in her time of need” added Josh “It was a small task for me but something that hopefully made a big difference to her day.”
In the weeks following the incident, Josh received a card from the lady thanking him for his help.
In the letter she wrote: “Just a short note to thank you for your help and support after the traffic accident.
“You being there helped to calm me and I apologise if I was talking rubbish at times. Once again thank you very much. You are a credit to the police force.”
