A MAN has been convicted of attempting to rape a vulnerable woman.
Ebbs Artez, 25, came across the victim when he saw her alone outside a bar in Post Office Walk, Harlow, in the early hours of May 19.
He led her through the town centre and attempted to rape her in the car park of The Water Gardens.
A security guard approached them, and Artez claimed they knew each other.
The victim was helped to get a taxi home and police were contacted about the incident.
Artez, of Milwards, Harlow, was quickly identified and arrested.
He denied a charge of attempted rape and stood trial at Chelmsford Crown Court on November 12.
He was found guilty by a jury on Thursday, November 22 and was remanded in custody until he is due to be sentenced on January 11, 2019.
Investigating officer, DC Lisa Stevenson, said: “Artez targeted a vulnerable woman and subjected her to a terrifying attack.
“He then denied doing anything wrong and put her through the ordeal of giving evidence.
“Thankfully the jury have seen through his lies and I hope the verdict will give the victim some comfort.”
