By Inspector Tony Walker
Harlow Police Station
EACH month, Harlow Police Inspector Tony Walker will giving us an overview of what the Harlow-based police officers have been doing.
TWO new officers have joined the team Pc’s Lauren Murray & Harriet Dodd and two further officers will be with by the end of March, this is great news and will allow the Community Policing Team to be even more visible on the streets whilst increasing our proactive work addressing issues that the public bring to us. Doing just this we been out and about on the cycle paths in Harlow to provide a visible presence and to reduce crime, officers have been out on foot and on bikes patrolling the vast number of cycle paths and this will continue throughout the year.
In response to concerns regarding drug use and anti-social behaviour in Hare Street we have increased our patrols both in uniform and plain clothes, this resulted in a local 15 year old boy being stopped and searched, he was found to be in possession of a cannabis and was arrested for possession of a controlled drug with intent to supply, enquiries are ongoing. Continuing our work to tackle drug related crime & as result of information supplied by the community three search warrants were executed at separated addresses in Bow Hill Way, Church End and the Dashes with arrests being made & drugs seized at each location.
Following on from a recent road traffic accident and complaints speed checks have been carried out in the Commonside Road area, we have received much feedback from local residents asking for checks to be carried out in a number of locations throughout Harlow, The Community Policing Team will be visiting other areas as will the Roads Policing Team.
Only Cowards Carry is an Essex based charity which was founded in November 2012 by Caroline Shearer in memory of her 17 year old son who was fatally stabbed in September 2012, driven by the devastating loss of Jay Caroline and the team have worked tirelessly to promote only cowards carry weapons awareness in the hope that young people understand the stark facts and devastating, life changing, true reality of knife crime. Here in Harlow we are fortunate to have a knife bin outside the police station provided by the charity and for the first time we also had a representative working in partnership with police in the Harvey Centre to provide education and insight into the dangers of knife crime. I would urge people to use the knife bin and to visit onlycowardscarry.org for more information regarding the charity and the valuable work being done throughout Essex to reduce knife crime.
