TWO drug dealers caught with £1,000 of heroin and crack cocaine have been jailed for a collective total of more than eight years.

Chelmsford Crown Court heard how officers from the West Operation Raptor team were patrolling in Harlow on October 14 this year when they became suspicious of a vehicle travelling along the A414 towards Harlow.

Officers continued to follow the car to Church Langley where they saw two known drug users approach it.

The Raptor officers approached the car and the driver 44-year-old Barry Kent started to move the car in an attempt to flee the scene. Officers managed to take the keys from the ignition and he was arrested.

At the same time Aaron Yeboah, the 24-year-old passenger in the car, dropped a handful of drug wraps of Class A drugs as officers opened the door.

Officers then searched the car and found wraps and rocks of the Class A drugs Heroin and Crack cocaine with a street value of £1,000, the Class B drug cannabis in the pocket of Yeboah, three mobile phones and a cannabis grinder.

Yeboah of Connaught Avenue, Chingford was charged with two counts of possession with intent to supply a Class A drug and possession of a Class B drug. He pleaded guilty to the charges at Chelmsford Crown Court and was jailed for two years eight months.

Kent of Bullfields, Sawbridgeworth was charged with two counts of possession with intent to supply a Class A drug. He pleaded guilty to the charges and was jailed for five years eight months.

Following the sentencing Det Sgt James Paget of the West Operation Raptor team: “There is no doubt that Yeboah and Kent were clearly intent on dealing Class A drugs on the streets of Harlow.

“Unfortunately for them, Operation Raptor were watching their every move and stopped those drugs reaching the streets of our town.

“We will continue to target those individuals, like Yeboah and Kent, who think they can come to our county to sell illegal drugs on our streets – they can’t and we will be waiting ready to arrest them and put them behind bars.”

Essex Police set up Operation Raptor teams in the North, South and West of the county to tackle drug and gang-related crime.

If you have information about drug or gang-related crime in your community contact Essex Police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
Yeboah and Kent were sentenced at Chelmsford Crown Court on Thursday 21 November.
