HEARTLESS thieves have stolen a memorial bench installed in memory of the much loved and respected former chair of the Harlow Health Trust, Martin Lawn.
The bench was situated at the new Lister House Health Centre at Abercrombie Way in Staple Tye.
We understand it was stolen over the last few weeks. We have contacted Lister House for more details.
We spoke to Martin’s widow, Pat Roberts, who told us that it appears a van may have driven up to bench and taken it away. The van had its number plate covered up.
Martin Lawn had worked tirelessly for the people of Harlow for over 59 years, as chair of the Harlow Health Centres Trust, chair of PAH hospital trust and as leader of Harlow Council as well as such diverse groups as the Woodcraft Folk, as a school governor and many other organisations.
The bench had a plaque on it, “In Memory of Martin Lawn, chairman of Harlow Health Centres Trust”.
